How does the lightbar work?

Post the lightbar up to the bonnet of your tractor with a magnet mount and connect it to a DGPS receiver (f. ex. with the Invicta 115). The receiver should be stucked in the middle of the cockpit roof (also by magnet mounts or in case of plastic roofs by large washer with two-sided tape). Just mark the endpoints of the first swath and the RGL does the rest. No other computer or hardware is required!

Lightbar Performance (Selection):

    • Parallel swathing

Parallel Swathing: The lightbar offers two possibilities of swathing: 1. Back and forth swathing, and 2. Snap-to-Swath swathing.

Back and Forth Swathing is used, as the name implies, to swath the field in first one direction and then the other in parallel swaths to the AB line (figure 1).

 

 

Make shure the GPS antenna has a good view to the sky. Steer a straigth line parallel to the intended swath paths while marking reference points A and B. Turn towards the next swath path. Press [SELECT] to mark C. The display will indicate swath 2. The lightbar will guide you now during the steer process: The red offset distance lights indicate the direction the user must steer to reach the swath number selected. Simply steer in the direction of the lights. That is, if the lights to the right of the center are on, steer right. If the lights to the left of center are on, steer left. The distance (in decicentimeteres) to the selected swath is shown on the right side of the screen.

 

Snap-to-Swath Swathing: The SNP pattern means that the Lightbar will provide guidance for the nearest swath, regardsless of the swath number. The swath number is automatically set according to the present position with reference swath 1. The Up and Down buttons do not increment and decrement the swath number. With the SNP pattern, the user can work the field with the least need for prossing RGL 500 buttons.

RGL 500 Tilt Compensation Universal
The LB-5 Smartbar Upgrade Option provides straight parallel swath guidance on fields that are not level. this option corrects position error that occur when applicator machine moves over an uneven field.

 

 

 

For accurate DGPS signal receiption, the GPS antenna is usually placed on the highest part of the applicator machine. This may be on top of the operator’s cab. The antenna height may be from 8 feet to 20 feet. If the surface of the field is not level, this antenna position at the center of applicator boom are not in the same place. The difference between the antenna’s position and the center of the boom is tilt error (see picture below).

If a field’s surface along a swath line is not uniformly at the same tilt angle, swath paths created by following the DGPS position will not be straight. If the field’s surface between adjacent swath’s is not at the same tilt angle, the swath patterns created by following the DGPS position will leave gaps or overlap.

The LB-5 Smartbar Upgrade Option measures the machine tilt using a solid state inclionometer. Once the machine’s tilt is determined, the “error” can be calculated and corrected. This tilt correction provides for straight parallel swathing on fields that are not level.
